June 7th 2022
The wedding was over. Sunday morning, a wonderful walk around "Seven Year Lakes" with our aunt Lissi and Ib, cousins Karen and Soren, the four of us siblings, and a great nephew. Home again, we picked up and cleaned up. Feasts of leftovers were sweetened with such a variety of cheeses and Barb'sdelicious homemade breads. Ted and I attended church held in Victoria by zoom at 7pm Denmark time.
Monday morning, breakfast with the Danish family. Simon, Kathia and Barb presented their speeches from the wedding in ENGLISH for those of us who did not understand the first time. Incredible.
Farewell to the family, hugs and more hugs. And suddenly, it was just us four siblings and spouses.
June 6th 0330 departure to Billund airport, and flight with all of us as far as Amsterdam where Kathi and Erik headed for Scotland and we headed for Greece.
Barb and Svend co-own a sailing boat with Danish friends. It seems like a perfect arrangement. The boat is well used, well loved, and well maintained. Our family gathered in summer 2019 for Mike to celebrate his 60th, but Ted and I did not attend, so that makes this trip even more sweet.
Sleeping arrangements - Ted and I have a berth in the bow of the boat, Mike sleeps in the living area on the couch, and Barb and Svend at the rear of the boat. It is a lovely older boat, moored in a small marina, ….
When the plane landed, and we had disembarked, we were greeted by fresh warm lovely air. Traveled to their boat by bus, ferry, a second wee ferry, and a few taxis. And by 7pm we were on the boat, making beds and headed for dinner. Ohhh. It was hot and stuffy in our cabin when we arrived. I wondered, "Am I going to be nauseated on this boat for two weeks?" Barb and I walked to a beach where we could swim, and got into the water, and swam! How refreshing! Perfect. (And the cabin was aired out and has been great).
Dinner – greeted by owner/chef/waiters of Barb and Svend. Sat by the ocean, at little tables, and ate delicious foods
Planning – the captain has ideas. And everyone is flexible, happy for whatever adventures together.
June 8th – morning meeting, Svend presented the possible plan for today, Mike discussed his idea of leaving for a major hike/run on the island of Crete in a few days. Food shopping, fresh orange juice and beautiful flowers.
The first leg of our journey, we headed north around the wee island/peninsula Methana and into a wee harbour Giorgio. Swimming is glorious. Ted and I went to shore, lay on a bench, slept, talked, repeat.
And then went further for a walk, explored this wee community, with houses that are shuttered, very few with cars and appear to have people, and many homes that are not finished yet. While Ted and I walked, slept and talked… Mike went for a 20 km run.Mike found great treasures in his travels, homes built with rocks, partially dug into the earth, wee doors, no or few windows, a manger to feed animals, some sleeping benches… incredible.

Thursday,
As we sailed from Giorgio to Vathi, Mike and Barb tried for hours to download an ebook about the hike on the Island of Crete to Mike's phone. Finally, he departed for his adventure… but with a sore foot, and perhaps missing us a bit, he is returning today! Which is great.
The forecast had been for high winds today, so our plan is to stay here in Vathi for a second night.Breakfast and lunch on the boat, and dinners out at a wee restaurant. Eating outside at 9pm, bathed by warm air and gentle breezes, is wonderful.
Yesterday morning, after a day of swimming the day before… we discovered many purple jelly fish. And so, had a few cautious swims at Giorgio and here at Vathi. Ugh!!
That is one of the best parts of being on this ocean, is being able to swim in warm water! I hope that we will visit bays where there are no jelly fish. Apparently these can cause pain. So are best to avoid! And they leave pieces of them behind, which can also attach to you? !! Ugh!
Today barb and I are going to do some painting. And welcome Mike back when he arrives.
I hope that we will get in a walk, and a few good swims. It is overcast, and feels less hot, which is a good thing I think. The past few days have been lovely and hot, but also, difficult to cool off!
